Eco-Mapping Our Neighborhoods

Resource Mapping Oakland

Students will embark on a journey rooted in resilience by asset mapping their neighborhood. They will find sources of Water, Air, Earth, Heat, Plants, Animals, Food, and Energy. They will also explore solutions and resiliency strategies to climate or environmental risks and hazards.

Youth choose their own visual representation method and design their ecomap incorporating what they learned about their neighborhood’s:

  • Indigenous land

  • Current demographics

  • Soil and air quality

  • Hot spots

  • Current and future average temperatures

  • Water resources

  • Flood risk

  • Herbal/medicinal plants

  • Community gardens and food sources

  • Other community assets and organizations
